mfm05 :: Grounded Circle - Through a Period of Time and Countless Other Things

I first heard the songs of Elliot Little aka Grounded Circle in early 2006. Since then i have never stopped playing his music. He is the first artist I invited to join memoryformat and in fact one of the artists that inspired its creation. During this period of time whenever I listened to a new tune from Elliot it felt like reading the latest part of a wonderful strange story, then looking forward to the next one. This release is that story put together in the order that I received it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. -sk

cod015 - ON_14: Sad Hours

Aogu Yoshida the Japanese guitarist talent who nowadays publishes pieces under the pseudo on_14, and had releases at Testtube and MiMi netlabels so far greets again Complementary Distribution with a warm EP titled Sad Hours. The endlessly reverberating, airy and this time more subtle guitar riffs gently flow throughout the first track, Happy Hour. Right then, a more blue and cinematic atmosphere – think about the sadness of Tarkovskij’s Stalker for example – is generated by the second song, Absence. Warm and lovely waves of hiss and the sound of delayed guitar strings gently fondle us in Still until we reach the final two shorter pieces. Black Coffee is ornamented with exciting again hissy glitches, while in Sad Hours another blue atmosphere can be heard, leaving the listener hungering for more of on_14’s unique guitar drones and atmospheres. The cover photo is also by this talented musician. We are hoping that this release will fill your summer afternoons, dawns and evenings.

[tube084] Spirit Elevating Brains - Raw adventures of the strident, harsh and sweet returnee

«Don't be scared by the cover artwork. Peruvian born Sebastian Alvarez is not some freaking devil worshipper of sorts. No, he just happen to like strong colorful visuals because he is also a visual artist. Sebastian, also known as SEB or Spirit Elevating Brains, has an interesting background, which led him into creating some very own and peculiar musical work. He is from Peru, lived in Brazil for a couple of years, and then went to USA, New York first, and then Chicago, where he is currently based, working for his degree in Audio and Video Production.
Sebastian has a previous album (a double-album, actually) released by austrian Chmafu Nocords. His page there has some interesting written stuff, from where I took the following paragraph: "Spirit elevating brains makes music that hijacks into memory, digital nostalgia, pins and needles for the cerebrum. Microscopic sounds come together like intricate metal sculptures, surgeons’ tools, watchmakers’ gadgets, all joining together in unlikely organic assemblages that leap and flap around the room." This is in fact the best description I've read about Sebastian's music. This new album with the title 'Raw adventures of the strident, harsh and sweet returnee' (obviously auto-biographical), dwelves deeper into into those intricate structures which are now his trademark sound. But more: Sebastian, because of the places where he has been, was able to capture very rich rhythmic influences and incorporate them into modern structures of electronic music, like IDM and cut-and-paste electronica.
This is an amazing work, full of secrets and scents of distant places, taken from the mind of this young but already very talented artist.» - Pedro Leitão

minim.all - les mots inconnu [arh021]

'Les mots inconnu' (unknown words) is a common project between Sorin Paun (aka minim.all) and Roshanak Ostad (iranian artist living in France). The music was inspired and created specially for Roshanak's illustration to her own poetry, therefore the clicks and glitches represents the lines and dots, the classic guitar with her "elastic" sound - the curves from the persian typography, all wrapped in beautiful and dreamy ambiance. It's visual and audio poetry that let the listener/wiever to create and to imagine his own words and verses by listening to the music and viewing the images.

[mtk187] Renzu - Reiha EP

We're delighted to debut the first Monotonik release from the Chicago-based Renzu, a professional 3D animator and self-described 'animation nerd' and composer of rather deliciously lush IDM soundscapes. And the 'Reiha EP' is just a sampling of his layered, deceptively complex electronic music stylings.
