bBlunk , the founding duo of the collective XoNdZf, is composed of pianist DoM DuboisTaine and drummer tiri Carreras.
The musicians met one evening, during an improvised music jam session organised at the Fabrica’son in Malakoff by Benjamin Duboc in 2007.
Their musical and human complicity was immediately apparent. Previously they had each participated in many musical experiences, from rock/pop to classical music and from jazz to contemporary music. Improvisation, the pleasure of experimenting with sound, the refusal of any prejudice and of any predefined school or style brought them together. As tiri says, “with DoM, I feel I’m playing the music I always dreamed of: totally free and in perpetual renewal.”
That was the starting point of a common labour in which both protagonists explore the possibilities of their instruments and of their dialogue. During sessions they talk and listen attentively in order to produce coherent and varied compositions. In this way they create small pieces, which can be erratic or dense, based on sound effects or melodious, energetic or restrained. Each one has its own unique form and universe.
‘O’bcal, bBlunk’s first album available online, offers a selection of recordings made at the “Bocal” in 2009. Around that central duet, the various groupings within the XoNdZf share a common taste for free improvisation, experimental research, and creation, always exploring their own path.
Maps And Diagrams' latest strike on classical electronica. Warmly droning
ambient-textures with plenty of endless space echo dominate the album.
Melancholy, contemplation and calm prevail - nicely wrapped in mysteriously
shining soundscapes with a kiss of lo-fi noise.
"The Giant Woods" seems to be rather predestined for the dark Winter days to come.
Bitlab Records, the Hungarian independent label which has already proved its quality by releasing quality melodic electronica and breakbeat dance musics is now back with a new series of free EPs. In the first volume of Dubstep Is Fun!, tracks from the label's two veterans are ready to rage. Noise64's powerful liveacts are not unfamiliar for Hungarian underground clubbers. His set of electroesque-tools within strict artistic boundaries now comes into play with stylistic elements of dub- and breakstep. Again, he rendered some light and very direct, though quality dance-music for all of us. The label's co-owner, Banyek who has been maintaining Hungarian club sessions and has had the chance to spin music at international gigs such as Sónar, Sperm & NewNew! Festivals, and also has a couple of acclaimed melodic electronica releases in the scene is also here on this release with some new forms and formulas. Analogue sounds and simplistic editing schemes, and suggestive entertaining speech & vocal bits are present within these new set of tracks – something which will be very familiar for the listeners. Thistime though everything is melted very ironically within the frames of dubstep wobble basses and 8-bit chirping.
During our whole life we either come closer to some matters or we walk away. We pass them, wander, track them down, become amazed by them again. There is an unknown space around us and probably we will never be able to discover it. In the distance we find a spot and - abducted by its brightness - we almost trip over things that should really interest us. And missed opportunities like to avenge themselves. Let's sit, wait, take a look around. Maybe we'll find what is neglected by us,underestimated.
There is many more in "space " than we have within sight.
