Renoise has launched BeatBattle V: Underwater, the fifth edition of Renoise's official music competition.
Despite its name, the competition focuses on themes rather than on beats.
The entries are made available in Renoise's .xrns format to enjoy and learn from.
A samplepack for this competition has been created by yOUTH, the winner of BeatBattle 4. The pack contains 37 samples which you can use in any way you want.
According to the rules you can also use your own samples (recorded or VST renders) if you like.
"Renoise 1.8's biggest new features is the sample recorder. Renoise songs with vocals and live instruments are few and far between, which makes us a bit sad. That is why we allow you to create and use your own samples, either by recording them or by rendering VSTs."
The deadline for submitting your song is June 1st and there are many prizes to be won, including software by Camel Audio, Crysonic and Wusik.
Visit the Renoise BeatBattle V: Underwater webpage for more details on this competition.
Big compilation of unreleased 2007 tracks in one. 30" of ambient, trip hop and some touch of jazz. Sit back and enjoy.
Piston Source, pretty much one of the last few open source labels left and definitely the only one focusing on Pixel's Piston Collage software, proudly announces the spaced out sounds of Door's "Planetarium Sky". It's a soulful, but cold melodic masterpiece that is at once both minimal and complicated, just like it's title. Download it (and the free player/editor) in the 'CUTS' section
We are quite happy to release such an album ; Dague de miséricorde's Dérobé, a 3 track forray into improvisation. As we are taken down a path of anti-structuralism, we see images and textures emerging from what seems to be chaos, into amazingly well detailed scenes and moods. The violins become intricate parts of the action and even actors, as we bear witness to every minute detail Dague de miséricorde offers to us; the silences become part of the instruments and what seemed chatoic at first is now an orchestration of movement, of action, in a graceful danse of sounds and images. A welcomed breather from sequence and barriers, Dérobé's sounds are distant and strange, yet refreshing; they let the mind wander and imagine in perfect and beautiful randomness
A second chance for acoustic influenced electronica (or the other way round?). "Electronica unplugged 2" is a collection of 10 tracks, by 10 artists which shows a slightly different side of netaudio these days. It is probably just a part of the start to different genres in free audio. We hope so.
