for deepdubtec lovers! the third cism release produced by berlin based duo "freund der familie" is out now. enjoy!
tatsu - attempt EP [bump033]
This is a combination of his experimental and usual tracks. "sealed dimension" and "alchemist" contain heavier kick than his normal style. Closing the EP is a minimal warm chill "warm inside".
tatsu - public holidays in May [bump034]
From 3 to 5 in May, there are public holidays in Japan. Between these days this EP was created.
[I took a trip on May 4, after that I made "city lights". The others were already there around May 3 but left untitled. Finally they were named as "route 289" and "among the mountains".]
"route 289" and "among the mountains" are close to his recent style, but "city lights" reminds me of his previously released "city at night".
A befitting conclusion to the 'quiet trilogy' (quiet ep, quieter ep) and presenting 'the quietest ep'. Take 20 minutes to put your feet up and relax to this collection of piano and orchestral ambience.
The daily things and thoughts turned into noises and echoes of repeated notes, the war tales of the old people (June 1946), the emotions storm of a birth (Pulce fagiolo), the slow and hot summers in Langa (Summer in Langa, La derniere fête d’été), the inevitable comparison (God), the hidden meaning behind the appearances (Significati minori).
As we're waiting for shiftless' upcoming lp at the end of this summer / beginning of fall, we have decided to release a free mp3 ep he created just for this purpose. Blimp Ep explores and re-explores a central theme; we seem to be witnesses to Shiftless imaginary world in what feels like a modern day victor hugo adventure. Across the different tones and movements, he drags us through streams and rivers as observers and explorers; warm textures creep in in a slow cadence in the distance as we delve deeper into the crevasses he creates to discover an overpowering calm and beauty. Ryan's drones are serene yet involving and blissfull, filled with layers of discreet noise and elevating pads that make the listener wander and get lost through these 4 beautiful tracks.
«If you're a Los Angeles resident you probably know where Barnsdall Art Park is, located atop of a hill with a nice view over the famous Hollywood sign (trust me, I've been reading about this). Barnsdall Park has gardens, trees and all that, of course, but also has one of the first Los Angeles works by worldwide famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the Hollyhock House, named after the favorite flower of the building's original owner, Aline Barnsdall, a woman philanthrope and patron of the arts. Barnsdall Park was closed for remodeling until recently (~ 2003) but it reopened, offering the visitors brand new exhibits, visual design and overall conditions. It also showcases many concerts and performances along the year, which brings us to this release we are offering, a live recording from a CalArts alumni showcase that took place at this park.
Mother is actually Chris Komashko, a former student of CalArts, California's best school of arts. He was there not for the music, but for a BFA in design. But what really tickled inside Chris's head was music and sound design, so pursued it and years later he was performing live at an CalArts Alumni Showcase. Life has a sense of humor. As a sound designer, Chris has done several original work for the motion picture industry, in trailers and such, for movies such as Pulp Fiction, Resident Evil or Blade II; as a musician he has done remixes for Madonna, A Flock of Seagulls, Kiss or Love & Rockets. But the Mother project, according to Chris, is "an ongoing project to learn more about the nature of sound and the auditory ties we all have to the emotional experiences of our lives. (...) mother is an attempt to push the concept of story telling as far away from song writing as possible and still communicate to the listener." Nothing to do with pop music or motion picture soundtracks, then.
Did Chris accomplished the task he sought? We have to dwelve into his music to learn the answer. File under improv/experimental. Happy listening.» - Pedro Leitão
We give you our first year anniversary present. Producers from all the corners of the globe joined in and made this beautiful sound journey that will take you to the heavenly realms.
Close your eyes... Music is relentless, body is restless. Energy pumping through your veins is just a foreplay for what's about to happen. Worry not. World of wonders is ahead of you. Just reach out and embrace it. Never surrender, never dance alone. We shall share our wonders with you. Now... Open your eyes.
We're dedicating this release to you because you have been a big support, loyal friends and audience. We have never been prouder with the release. So many people created so many beautiful sounds varying from ambient and stylish electronica to banging techno with some slight detours into drum'n'bass and breaks waters and into dark electro-experimental clouds, but yet suitable for every ear and taste. There's a bit of everyone's cup of tea in this release, we kid you not.
