(MA030) Wes Rock - Society Ep

He saw it at dawn and at first he was sure his eyes were betraying him. But as they moved nearer the more he became convinced that something was there, although it seemed impossible to determine what it was, protruding from the ground, barely visible. (excerpt from: Alberto Vazquez Figueroa - Tuareg) Finally, globetrotter Wes Rock arrived at musicartistry, presenting his first EP 'Society', a five-track record mirroring the experiences made on his journeys, travelogues told through bass and beats.

[buckram013] Big Duke Six - Elevate 3 song ep out now!

3 dope tracks from Big Duke Six. Break Out is a minimal tech-house mover, pumping beats and ambient noise mixed with bit of funkiness. Pressed Myself is built upon a liberation theme, a hip-hop instrumental from the underground. Love Jam wraps it up, with soft keys, vocoder, and a trip-hop beat.

Serein.co.uk: Nest - Nest EP

Nest is the collaborative project of Otto Totland (Deaf Center / Type Records) and Huw Roberts (Serein). The two started working together after forging a strong friendship as former members of the Miasmah label. This self-titled EP is their first work publicly released, so it is a great honour that we are able to offer it to you here. Both pianists, there is little wonder that after exploring a plethora of musical styles, the two find themselves most at home writing traditionally structured pieces, with the ivories a major element throughout. The EP demonstrates clearly the innate ability the two have for song writing, borrowing from the world of film soundtracks and contemporary classical composers to craft delicate instrumental compositions. Alongside their favoured instrument can be variously heard the plucked strings of the Welsh harp, violins, woodwind instruments, field recordings, percussion and a heady dose of mind wobbling effects. From the time Nest began writing together, one purpose was clear; to produce beautiful music free of pretense, and they do it exceptionally well.

[NTT044] Elín - Undertones

After her first effort for Entity in 2004 ([NTT009] Elín - Impressions), Elín Anna Steinarsdóttir is very welcome to return with some of her newer material.
In these 9 tracks we get to experience a concrete, dynamic environment that could've easily originated in some of Iceland's dense forests or parks.
Apparently, a dark fairytale unfolded at the time of recording, and there must've been loads of those because "Undertones" covers the whole synaesthetic approach by enabling a myriad of sound sources (percussion, found/recorded sounds, instruments, synthesizers, ...) to find common ground in an ever-expanding canvas of organic sonifications.

[tube069] Petr Drkula - 2

«Born and educated in the Czech Republic, Petr Drkula has a fine sense of repetition in music. You can easily breathe everything that he had learned in those matters over the last few years with his most recent work, «2».

Contemporary composers like Terry Riley («A Rainbow In Curved Air», «Poppy Nogood»), Steve Reich, Erik Satie or the cadence of Brian Eno are an evident influence in this work. Although not explicit, eastern European folk music has an important role in this record. It runs the map of the melodies you hear and it builds the road for which any of the other references above can be identified. Because of that, «2» is two-piece study over the importance of traditional vs. contemporary composition in the fields of electronic folk. «Duality» and «Polarity» are like one piece facing a mirror effect. They evolve from one beat-up drone, nearly raw and childish, that is over-produced with fake and incomplete melodies that, at the end, form one that i’s singular and kindly beautiful. «Duality» is more simple toned, transparent and direct, an underwater symphony that through repetition rises above. But «Polarity» is quite the opposite. You can easily daydream throughout its almost thirty minutes without any motivation of moving. You just want to stay there and see what happens or what you can or can not think of. It’s a child’s toy for adults who seek fulfillment through relaxation. It may seem lazy, but it’s nothing like that. It’s all about the basic mechanics of repetition in music, the complexity of movement over movement, even if it sounds, primarily, always the same.

Petr Drkula does in «2» what has been explored in some fields of music over the last fifty years. And it’s so damn close to perfection that you’ll feel sorry if you miss it.» - André Santos
